What is stress?
So to manage your stress you need to maintain your overall well-being and prevent the negative health consequences associated with chronic stress.

Stress is a natural and normal response that your body has to various demands and challenges in life. It's often referred to as the "fight or flight" response because it's a reaction that prepares your body to either confront a threat or flee from it. Stress can be triggered by both physical and psychological stimuli, and it can have both positive and negative effects on your well-being.

Here's how stress works:

Trigger: Stress can be triggered by a wide range of situations and events, including work pressures, financial difficulties, relationship problems, health concerns, and even positive events like planning a wedding or starting a new job.

Body's Response: When you perceive a situation as stressful, your body releases a surge of hormones, including adrenaline and cortisol. These hormones prepare your body to respond to the perceived threat.

Physical Changes: The physiological changes that occur during stress are designed to help you respond effectively. They include increased heart rate, heightened alertness, faster breathing, and redirected blood flow to muscles.

Emotional and Cognitive Effects: Stress can also have emotional and cognitive effects. You might feel anxious, irritable, or overwhelmed. It can also impact your ability to think clearly and make decisions.

Short-term vs. Chronic Stress: Short-term stress, often called acute stress, is a normal response that typically subsides once the stressful situation is resolved. Chronic stress, on the other hand, occurs when you're exposed to prolonged stressors and can have more serious health consequences.

Effects on Health: Prolonged exposure to stress can lead to various health problems, including high blood pressure, heart disease, digestive issues, depression, and anxiety. It can also weaken the immune system, making you more susceptible to illness.

It's important to note that not all stress is bad. In some situations, stress can be a motivator and help you perform better. This is often referred to as "eustress" or positive stress. However, when stress becomes chronic or overwhelming, it can have detrimental effects on your physical and mental health.
